Pacific National Rail is the largest intermodal rail provider in Australia, being a major supplier of bulk rail services. The rail provider operates 180 services a week across the mainland of Australia, being the market leader on the east-west and north-south long haul corridors. In order to keep up with the demand, Pacific National Rail needed new locomotive assets that would be able to provide greater capacity and reliability to their clients. UGL collaborated a freight solution with GE Transportation to meet the requirements of the clients’ needs.
The Solution
UGL was able to satisfy Pacific National Rail with high performance diesel electric locomotive assets by supplying C44ACi models to their existing fleet. The C44ACi locomotive assets have the capability of performing heavy haul applications with high-speed freight operations to accommodate more workloads from Pacific National Rail.
The locomotive assets are a part of UGL’s latest generation of high performance diesel electric rigs that deliver greater availability, reliability and capacity for new haulage contracts. Additionally, UGL custom built low-noise, well-organized operator cabs to meet the needs of Pacific National Rail’s driver requirements. The features include unobstructed front windscreens for a clear view of the track, air conditioning and easy-to-read screens of operating functions.
Pacific National Rail also benefits from the 4500 GHP engine, heavier load capabilities, improved rail traction and reduced axle centers that decrease wear and flange force when traveling along curved tracks. The GE and ULG collaboration displays a dedicated partnership that produces continuing evolution in high performance locomotive fleets.
