Centennial Coal operates 10 coal mines in New South Wales and is one of the largest underground producers of coal in the state. By fueling approximately 40% of the State's coal-fired electricity, Centennial Coal needed a solution to increase growth, enhance operations and improve control over supply.
Centennial Coal sought for a solution from UGL to address the growing demands of their industry, in which, UGL was able to deliver an outstanding answer to their needs.
The Solution
UGL delivered CEY Class locomotives that represent the C44ACi models that are developed by UGL and GE Transportation. These new locomotives were added to the current fleet at Centennial Coal and have increased capacity and operational standards across the board. During the initial, first fleet operation, Centennial Coal was able to set a new record in terms of hauling capacity by delivering about 770,000 tons of coal from mine to port.
The increased capacity helps Centennial Coal increase profits, enhance efficiency and reach new supply targets. The new locomotives have exceeded expectations and are just one of many engineering solutions provided by UGL. The locomotives feature 4500 GHP engines, isolated operator cabs and traction control technology that reduces slippage.
